Meet the Principal

Welcome to Herrington Elementary School!

My name is Michael Mickens and It is a privilege and honor to serve this school and community.

It is truly a privilege to lead this school where my entire teaching career has been spent since I started at
Herrington in August, 2002.

I began as a fifth grade teacher at Herrington, then a fourth grade teacher for many years, then fifth
grade before becoming the instructional leader in March, 2023.

Happily, I am now serving students whose parents I taught over 20 years ago. This consistency here at
Herrington has paved the way for students to thrive academically and socially.

More important, many of the Herrington staff have taught together for well over ten years which adds
another layer of consistency for our students.

Furthermore, Herrington is being remodeled and we are excited to return in 2025 to a remodeled
building that will provide our students with new amenities that they so rightfully deserve in the
educational arena.

Historically, Herrington has had long standing partnerships that have served the students in many and
various capacities. Two of larger partnerships include Kensington Church and the United Way of
Southeastern Michigan. These invaluable partnerships allow us to offer our students exemplary
programing which in turn further enhances our students scope of the academic and social world in
which they live in.

I am elated at your student attending Herrington Elementary School; which educating the whole child,
academic and socially, is our number one main priority.
