From the Principal's Desk

Michael Mickins
Principal
Welcome to Herrington Elementary School! My name is Michael Mickens, and it is both a privilege and an honor to serve this incredible school community.
Herrington has been my home since I began my teaching career here in August 2002. Over the years, I have had the opportunity to serve as a fifth-grade teacher, a fourth-grade teacher, and again as a fifth-grade teacher before becoming instructional leader in 2023 and now principal. Having spent my entire career at Herrington, I have built lasting relationships with generations of students and families. Today, I have the joy of serving students whose parents were once in my classroom.
One of Herrington's greatest strengths is the consistency of our staff. Many of our educators have worked together for more than a decade, creating a stable, supportive environment where students feel known, valued, and empowered to succeed both academically and socially.
Our school also benefits from strong community partnerships that enrich the educational experience for every child. Organizations such as Kensington Church and United Way for Southeastern Michigan help provide valuable programs, resources, and opportunities that extend learning beyond the classroom.
As Herrington continues to grow, we remain committed to providing every student with the tools, support, and opportunities they need to thrive. I am proud to be part of a school that believes in educating the whole child and partnering with families to help every student reach their full potential.
Thank you for choosing Herrington Elementary School. We look forward to learning, growing, and succeeding together.
